Challenges facing the IWC

The International Whaling Commission is facing more threats today than possibly at any other time in its existence. Despite the commercial whaling moratorium, tens of thousands of whales have been killed by whale hunters since the moratorium began in 1986. Japan continues to maintain an aggressive scientific whaling program, and Iceland is increasing efforts to hunt whales as well. And, Japan’s multi-year plan to buy the votes of smaller member nations has been horribly successful — many believe Japan may hold enough votes to end the commercial whaling moratorium at the 2010 IWC annual meeting.

We cannot let this happen. Help IFAW fight for our whales by donating to our campaign, reading our blog and connecting with us on Twitter, Facebook, Flickr and through our Facebook Causes page. Or, visit our action center for more ways your can help save whales.
